he Neutronics Transistorized Ignition Module converts a conventional breaker-triggered coil ignition system to a breaker-triggered transistorized ignition system. Benefits include easier starting, greater reliability and reduced wear to the points.
Theory of Operation
Conventional breaker-triggered coil ignition systems use points to control the timing and switch the high current from the coil to the spark plug. The high current from the coil causes the points to deteriorate over timecontact erosion (pitting). The Ignition Module uses solid state electronics to control the high current. Timing is still determined by the points. The system has the advantages of (1) an increase in primary current and (2) considerably longer service life for the points.
Installation Steps
- Disconnect the battery.
- Connect the wire harness to the ignition module.
- Secure the module to the engine compartment. The brown wire must be connected to chassis ground. Use one of the studs for mounting the module.
- Connect the red wire to the positive side of the ignition coil.
- Connect the green wire to the negative side of the ignition coil.
- Disconnect the ignition capacitor from the distributor. This should
be a green wire located under the distributor
- Connect the green/black wire to where the ignition capacitor was connected.
- If needed, tie-wrap the wiring.
- Reconnect the battery.
